1996 S500 W140 Replacing self leveling shocks

Is it possible to replace the OEM self leveling rear shocks with after-market shocks? If so, please provide recommendations for replacement shocks. How will the car be impacted by no longer utilizing the self leveling feature (i.e., ride height, comfort, etc.)
Thanks in advance

Why not fix the system, most of the time the accumulators go bad, its a $300 fix. If you have driven it with defective accumulators, you could have destroyed the Hydro/Strut. As my dealer states "unless they leak they are usually ok". I would check the parts books I have heard that without the self leveling there are different spring pads to raise the car slightly.
