I have a 1996 C200 Elegance.

I love the car to bits, but feel that the performance should be better.
The acceleration is slow and sometimes painful. My friends has a lot more punch when accelerating.
The car just seems very sluggish.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can improve the overall performance without breaking the bank by doing an engine swap or buying a different model.

Many Thanks

P.S I am a complete newbie when it comes to car mechanics so any help would be most appreciated.

Search. This same thread comes up all the time.

There's not much to do with these models as far as significant power gains without "breaking the bank". What kind of car does your friend have that makes you need more power?

The budget thing to do (as said by someone else here in a thread like this) is weight reduction. Get rid of everything you don't need, spare tire, back seat, passenger seat, speakers, carpets, headliner, door cards, etc. etc. Your car will be quicker.

Otherwise brakes, tires and suspension upgrades... out handle your buddy with the faster car.

It's a 2.0, it's the economy version, it was never meant to be fast.

He's right. It's not meant to be quick. If you want fast, get a C43. It will definitely be what you want speed wise.
