I've decided I want to purchase this vehicle from a third party or from a dealership. But I want to know why most of the vehicles I find are around 130,000-170,000 miles. Is it because there are drive train problems that happen with these cars?

No, I think it's just because the average person drives around 12,000 miles per year, so a 1996 should have about 170,000 miles by this point and a 2001 should have about 120,000 miles if driven the national averages.
