Guys,

I have a 95 SL600 which apparently needs a new transmission. Not in the mood for a new one from the dealer. Anybody have any good results getting a rebuilt one. I'm in N.C. but they can be shipped from anywhere. In a perfect world the rebuilt tranny will have the valve body set up for 1st gear start as the rest of the stuff is on the car now.

Thanks,

Joe

Even the dealer use rebuilt transmission if you let them replace yours. I found that out when I had my (92 300E) transmission replaced at the dealer. They told me if I want a new transmission (not re-built) they have to order it from Germany by sea cargo which would take IIRC 3 month and the cost is twice as much as the re-built trans which was around $3,500 (that was in 1998).

So, I opt for a rebuilt trans for $1,500 + $1,000 labor and they gave me a 2year dealer warranty. The transmission worked flawlessly for 7years until I totaled the car.

I have a dealership that does the rebuilding themselves and they charge a reasonable sum for doing that. Might want to check the dealership out on that score. The highest level techs/mechanics rebuild tranny's.
