I am looking to purcahse my first MB and want something big and powerful. This car is in amazing condition with 90,000 miles. Is it a reliable car and is this a good price? HELP
1995 S420 for 5995.00...Good Deal?

Hello and welcome. If the big maintenance repairs have been made it helps the value, if not, it kinda hurts it. Has the A/C evaporator already been replaced? What about the engine wiring harness?
Both are high failure items on a '95 W140 and both are $$$$ repairs, especially the evaporator.
FWIW, I paid $3200 for my excellent condition '93 400SEL (same car as the S420) and the evaporator, as well as the engine wiring harness have both been replaced on mine, as well as many other $$$ parts that sometimes fail on these.
That is not a bad price if the above mentioned has been replaced, if not, it would need to be in excellent condition in and out before I would pay over $5K for one. You can sink $3K into one of these quickly on repairs/needed updates. If they have not yet been replaced, chances are they will soon need to be addressed. Any service records available? That helps as well.

You want something big and powerful? The W140 is big, but the S420...is ok, I wouldn't call it powerful by any stretch of the imagination. If you want powerful, I would hold out for an S600...a W140 S600 is the definition of Big and Powerful.

ditto..with the addition there are many of these hitting the market now because of high gas/maintenance and aging demographics.
Hold out for something you really like...get a '99 that has been well maintained and has been garage kept. makes a world of difference.
