Hi all, I have been looking and searching but have not found anything on removal and replacing of the rear axle's.

Today just a block from home I accelerated and BOOM!! I hear this loud bang and then my car won't move.

Towed it home and put it on jack stands and the left rear half axle is loose and so forth.....wondering if I tore it up (broken)......Could be the Differential too I suppose.....First I thought Tranny.

If so anyone have a photo's or sequence on r/r this item, and how to do it....

I could just rip into it but I'm sure there is a smarter way and a 1,2,3..... method to it.

Anyone with this knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks,

Mitch. Merry Christmas right :(:(

Just had the same bang from under my car earlier in the week and found one of the drive/half shafts had snapped near the wheel end just beside where the raised bit on the shaft is by the end of the joint boot(the break was hidden inside the boot which made me think the diff had gone initially)
Getting the shaft involves taking the nut (30mm i think) off in the centre of the hub and at the other end is 6 multipoint bolts ,easy as pie

Yea thanks to both of you on a quick response.

Yes I think it is near the wheel also on mine.......yea should be an easy fix I see PartsGeek does not offer the half shaft so I'll have to shop around....

probably looks like the inner cv joint should replace if I'm going to all this trouble to replace the shaft........I'll take a look when I'm in there though......Thanks again

Well maybe someone will read this.....

Will a 1995 E320 rear axle assembly fit my 1995 S320 ???

I am Quite frustrated about the lack of a rear axle assembly listed for a 1196 S320. So I am hoping that I am just ignorant and the 1995 E320 fits the 1995 S320, But I will not buy this unit until I am told they are interchangeable.

Wow I need help on this....

You know Trike I'm not sure either I hope someone in the know will let me know if the Axle assembly for the 1995 E320 and the 1995 S320 are interchangeable. That would help out alot...... PartsGeek.com has those for like less than $100.00 that would be sweet.........

Thanks

If it's the actual shaft that snaps, then no. That will just go boom without warning. If it's the CV joints wearing out, they may give some warning by clunking under load or when turning.

Vibration from the corners is almost always a wheel balance issue.

Thats what im hoping for, tire might be out of wack it clears up at higher mph but at lower say 40mph there is a pronounced vibration from that right rear side.
