My 1995 e320 wagon started making a clicking sound when the car was turned off. When I turned it on again, the heat no longer worked and the next morning (sigh) , the battery was dead. I have looked at the OVP. It's dated 08/03/18 but there was some moisture inside the cover. I've re-charged the battery. Clicking still there. New to all of this. All help appreciated.

try and localize where this clicking is coming from, using a plastic pipe held up to your ear or something.

Clicking noises typically originate from the relays.

As for the OVP, moisture is no bueno. Replace with a new genuine MB OVP relay unit. Your car model cannot start/run without a fully functional OVP

You could remove your fuses one by one and listen for the clicking. When you can associate a particular fuse with the clicking stopping, this will give you a clue as to where to put in the effort.

Being a E320, we must address the elephant in the room i.e. eco junk wiring. If this car still has the factory pre-1998 engine harnesses then all bets are off.

Verify the harness build date (F.D. xx.xx.xx) on the tag located by the OVP and report back.

One more thing, verify that your battery splash shield is in place and properly installed. Otherwise, water can enter the OVP and nearby electronic modules.

Had the same problem with my 1995 Cabriolet. It was the OVP
