Hello All,

Thanks for viewing this thread. Our 1995 e320 Wagon 165k miles, has nice cold AC currently. However, often (and especially when it's heat soaked after sitting in a parking lot) upon starting the car, the climate control fires up and goes to "hi" but the AC commpressor does not engage. Simpy shutting the car off and turning back on remedies the problem, every time. Cycling the climate control on/off has no effect, it requires a restart.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Bryan

A/C problems are tough to diagnose. Here's a couple electrical issues to to eliminate off the bat. Do you know if the fuses are in good shape? Has the engine wiring harness been replaced?

Thanks much, yes indeed, I've been through some AC stuff in my day, that's for sure! I'm just glad the W124 AC system has come so far since the days of my W123 '85!!

I will check the condition of the fuses... I've replaced a few of them, but not all. I'll check the harness for signs of deterioration.. The car seems to have been very well cared for, so I'm hoping it's been done in the past. I think it is also possible that the high pressure switch (I'm assuming there is one) might be being tripped if the system is overfull.. I'll throw the gauges on it and see...

It seems there's a new issue as well in addition to the intermittant AC on issue, it seems that the electric fans are not running at idle, and as such when stopped, the AC blows warmer, until the coolant temp reaches a point where the fans are forced on, then it's nice and cold. I'll crack open the wiring diragrams from Alldata and see what's up.

Thanks for the replies

*** UPDATE ***

The cooling fans now operate on low as they should.. the little fuse on relay K10 (or is that K9) anyhow that's fixed.

Still tracing the issue with AC comp not engaging on startup when the engine is heatsoaked... shutoff and second start brings it to life.. I'm wondering if it is overfilled, and when it is heatsoaked, maybe it's tripping the high refirgerant pressure switch?
