That's strange, only about one-fourth of that in the U.S., i.e. for the part.
Yeah, the harnesses do pop on eBay regularly, new in the box, for $800'ish. Be careful saying that around here though. LOL! I got a 20 days "time out" for pointing this out when a moderator tried telling me it cost $4k. Of course, that person also happens to run a MB parts store, so I'll let you be the judge as to whether there was any bias involved.
But yeah, no way I'd ever pay full price for that harness. I think MB's pricing on that part is pretty much extortion, to be honest with you. They know the demand is high, because they know their wiring from 93-95 was defective, and so they jacked the price to the sky. I think that's unethical, if anything, they should sell them at a discount not a markup, since the only reason they're selling them in the first place is their own defective design.
But the thing is, if the main harness is bad, the ETA wiring is probably also shot since the sheating is made from the same defective stuff. Those are another $1k+ to have rebuilt, for a set of 2. Even if you do the labor yourself, then you're still looking at over $2k for this job. That nut just isn't cheap no matter how you crack it.
This is why I tell people not to bother with a 93-95 car, unless they can verify that this was done prior to the sale. I suspect a lot of these mint-condition 93-95 600s I see are only for sale in the first place because of wiring problems.
