I've got a 92 500s(v8).It turns over but doesnt start,I pulled the air cleaner assy. off to see if it would prime and start. It didnt start but it did shoot flames out of the plume.I also checked the fuel pump and it is working.
Since it does shoot the flame out of the plume it is getting fuel and fire.My question is:is there some kind of timing sensor? Can the timing get off without it being a chain or belt?
As you can tell from my posting I am not a mbz mechanic. If it was a japan or american made It would'nt be a problem.
Anyone with any advise about this timing problem would be greatly appreciated.

If you put fuel down the air handler and it fired back it seems to be a timing issue, I would think the crank sensor.

Timing chain can indeed get off on that engine. The upper timing chain guides break and timing chain can jump a tooth or two. The value covers need to come off to see if the guides are broken. If they are you may need a professional to check the timing marks.
