I have a 1991 W463 but it is not diesel, i imagine the washer pump it is the same. It is on the front passenger side. There are two pumps, one for the lights and one that pushes water for both the front windshield and the rear window. The pump runs in two direction by reversing the polarities. In one direction it push water to the front windshield and another direction it pushes the water to the back window.

I was doing some work on my central dashboard and noticed that if you disconnect the switch for the rear washer in the central upper dashboard the front wiper washer also stops working which makes sense as they are interconnected as they use the same pump. I am sure that MB engineers built some security not to have both switches send power with different polarity to that same pump, i did not look at the electrical diagrams.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for that! Yes-a schematic would help. I thought I had a service book for this thing but it's lost among all the mog paraphernalia...The pump is not expensive here (surprisingly)...
