I have a 1991 500 sl, all lights work fine except for the passenger side rear night light. When the brakes are depressed the stop light comes on no problem, but the actual constant light does not work. I switched the drivers side light to passenger side and vice versa, still no constant light. Could it be that the wiring for the constant light is damaged but not the braking light in the same housing? Has anyone run a wire from the other side and if so, wouldnt it create a short?
perplexing wiring issue again..

Clean the socket pins, they corrode.
If not use a test light to see.

I think that the harness is coming from the left side, you have a connector going to the right side, check there too.

Regards,
aam.
