So, here is the deal boys, i drove my car two days ago with my father. Some due stupid ass lady damn near T boned us. My back right door area was crushed into the fender. This info was given to me just today via the phone by my Geico adjuster. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It needed paint/body work before the accident. I need help boys. What should i do? Anyone know of hi quality body shops in the Westchester county NY/CT area that can fix the car? If not, what price are you willing to pay for the car from me?

That's a good amount of damage, nothing that couldn't be fixed... however from the insurance perspective, the damage exceeds the car's value. You can get a quote from a body shop for the repairs and compare to what the insurance companies estimate is. Your options are: take the insurance's money and get another car. Fight for more money. Sue the other driver if they are at fault.

Old Mercedes are pretty much worthless from an insurance company perspective. They will mostly likely total it out and give you pennies for it.

If you value your old Benz, you need to buy a set value policy.

+1

Probably only worth a couple thousand and I see at least that much in repairs (unless you could do yourself). Unless its sentimental, take the money and find another one.

What hurts is that its my first car that i bought with my own money. I wanted to one day, when i have kids, give it to them. I did not owe anyone, i paid in cash.

I only have liability coverage on all four of my MBs because "blue book" is so low. This includes my 2005 C230K in pristine condition with only 39K miles.

Sad thing is that my 2010 plain Jane Honda Accord LX with 103K miles is worth more than all four of my Mercedes combined 😥

Based on the visual condition (ripped driver seat, paint condition, wrong wheel bolts, etc.) that does not look like a car with only 68K miles. I highly suspect somewhere along the line someone rolled back the odo a couple of hundred thousand OR put in a cluster from a low miler car before passing it on.

This car would take way too much money to set right. Take the money from the insurance co, or buy it back and part it out yourself. Then find another car.

Been down this road with other 'vintage' rides. You can pay higher premiums and get stated value insurance. But given that there are so many common 124's still on the road, if it were me, I'd hammer Geico for the most 'totaled' payout they will give. Take the money and run. It will be enough to maybe get a similar, sorted 124 ride again. You can buy back the car from Geico too and fix it yourself with a 'salvage' title. Not sure why anyone would do that however, with so many better 124's still out there.

And just as an FYI, Geico is a shite car insurance company....so is All State. I could tell you many stories about both.......

Sorry to see this. With paint in that condition it will be hard convincing the insurance company that it is something special. Like others have said, negotiate as best you can (are you sure your neck doesn't hurt?), take the money, and buy another to fulfill your dream.

Sorry mate.
All you can do is tell them to fix it. Which they won't. Get the best settlement you can and start looking for a replacement right now.

Oh, and for everybody with just basic insurance because these cars aren't valued, raise all your insurance limits. I was rear ended while stopped at a light, controlled left, on my motorcycle last year, and bill from the orthopedic surgeon alone is $90k so far. I'm still waiting to get a $27k procedure for my back. Then, on top of that there's the 4 months of physical therapy I did, multiple visits to each of maxillofaxial specialist, neurologist, chiropractor, the numerous CAT scans, MRIs, X rays, twice a week for 3 months with a shrink, 7 months of lost wages, bonuses, etc.

All in, the person who hit me will have to cough up half a million or more. If all they have is the typical $15k/ $30k/ $30k state minimum (varies by state,) they're gonna lose their house, and more.

I have a friend on a MC that was hit by a guy arguing with his daughter at an intersection. He kept a file of all the expenses and when he was given the OK by all the docs, some two yrs later, he got his settlement. It's a long haul with insurance companies....they hope by simple attrition most will drop out.

As far as the guy losing his house, that will become a civil court case and probably go to a jury. The insurance companies have deep pockets beyond the $15k/ $30k/ $30k state minimum on the policy.

My son got his collar bone broken just riding passenger in a car that rolled over multiple times. It was over a yr before he saw any money other than the medical stuff. WA has some law that since he was living with me, he was able to go after my car policy company too. So both insurance companies of the two cars involved and mine to boot......crazy. He got a sizable settlement, got hooked on opioids for all the pain(first surgery was botched) and eventually succumbed to drugs. He did get to spend the money first.......

Sorry about your boy mate. That's just awful.

I'm quite prepared to sue, get that court settlement, and put a lien on everything they have.

Insurance was dicking me around so I got a lawyer. Things are going a little more smoothly now. I'm still uncomfortable to the verge of suffering most of the time. Not agony or misery though those have definitely been felt. Just an unpleasant sensation most days.

All for a fucking text/ like/ tweet. Yes, they admitted to "taking a quick look at their phone" in the moments before driving right through me.

Mercedes W124 are worth more in parts then a running driving car . If you can take the parts off and sell them part by part you will have enough cash to buy a newer car . Like the EZL alone is fetching up to £400 in the UK and thats only one part .
