I've been looking for an older Benz for quite a while. Ideally, I wanted a diesel (W123 or W126) but I came across a 91 560SEL for sale. I haven't taken a look at it yet because it is at a dealer close to 3 hours from my home, but I am willing to take the trip if warranted.

Although photos can hide a lot of things, the car does appear to be in original condition and everything supposedly works on it. My question is, assuming it is all original at 10K, how good of a deal is $6500? This seems quite reasonable to me, but I haven't kept close tabs on prices for gasoline models of this vintage.

I know that the amount of expense that goes into maintaining a Mercedes is highly condition upon mileage and care of the vehicle, so in that case this seems to be about as good as it can get. About how much should I expect to spend annually on repairs if I am driving around 150 miles per week? This would be my first MB, so I want it to be good.

I appreciate any feedback and advice.

Thanks,
Nick

For a final-year W126 with that kind of mileage $6,500 seems almost too good to be true, so a very thorough inspection would be most prudent.

As for repairs, mileage that low may also mean seals, hoses, belts and such may have gotten brittle by now, but, once you're done with that, this would be a car not very costly to maintain.

Definitely seems too good to be true. Unless properly stored, these cars need to be driven in order to keep their longevity. At that age, regardless of mileage, a lot of stuff will likely need replacing. I'd take a look at it, and if it seems to drive and run well get a full inspection. $6500 would be a steal for that low of mileage.

560SEL for $6,500.00 has 235K miles

I know this 560SEL in Bentonville, AR (corp. home of Walmart). It is very clean car, but true miles are 235,000. Carfax shows 187K in 2009 and it has no service records at all. It has AMG emblems and AMG white gauges. It is NOT an AMG car. The problem with these wonderful W126 cars is if they have half way been cared for, they don't look the miles. When you have no records you must steer clear, unless it's cheap and you're a gambler.
