I usually hang around the 107 board, so i'm not up on diesels. My last oil burner was a 240d, and I know enough to be aware of the 350's penchant for rod problems. I'm here because I'm on the cusp of buying this car, and could use some informed advice.

200k miles, car is in pretty good shape. Rust free, needs a wax and cleaning, but looks good. New tires, new exhaust, radiator, trans and torque conv4rter.

Engine was "rebuilt" 40k miles ago. Crank was turned, and 2 rods were replaced, along with new rings and a new head. Engine starts and runs smoothly for a minute, then seems to lose an injector and smokes. Under load, it seems to hit on all six and pull fine, but idles roughly. Owner says it does NOT use any lubricating oil. Car can be had for $1200. I'm just trying to figure out the risk/reward on this one.

Thanks!

Have the compression checked before purchase. Sounds like fuel delivery issue though.
