1990 300SL wiper cover removal for lubrication?

I am helping a friend work on a 1990 300SL and we need to lube the wiper glides as they slow down and stop after being on a while like my 220 did when it needed relubed. However, unlike my 1996 C220, the wiper mech cover is metal instead of plastic and therefore doesn't seem to just snap off or have the two little plastic tabs underneath holding it on. There is a seam making it appear to be in two pieces, so does anyone know the trick to popping the top cover off? I thought about trying to pry it off but didnt want to break anything. Ideas?

take the wipers off then gently pry the cover off.. If has clips underneath the weatherstripping but that's about it.
