I have a 1990 300E with a bad tranny. Only reverse works right now. Drive just went out while sitting at a stoplight. The car is in great shape. Only 148k, many new parts. Ball joints,brakes,muffler,...Runs and did drive great before transmission went out!

I'm not planning on fixing it.

The car is located in Houston, TX.

Any and all offers considered.

Runs and "did drive" great might be a bit more accurate there Garret. Do yourself a favor and post up pictures of the car. Tell everyone where the car is located.

Good Luck

Garrett, Make sure the transmission doesn't just need a new filter and fluid change. I have seen a clogged filter (that actually looked great on inspection) prevent sufficient fluid flow to allow drive to engage. It might be worth the effort to drop the pan and give it a check.

If it HAS failed, then as Jayare says, let us know where you are and you might be surprised at how much interest there is in the car. Good luck

I had this problem with our '91 300D and I found the fix on this forum. I have lost the link, but essentially the little thrust rod that pushes on one side of the B2 clutch band had fallen out and was sitting on top of the filter. Though the repair required a pretty substantial disassembly, I was able to do it with the engine and transmission in the car and the parts cost was probably less than $100, not including the filter and the ATF. This is pretty well described in an older post.

I did also purchase a manual for the transmission with which I was able to piece together a procedure for the repair.

I really don't think I would get rid of the car for this, if it turns out to be the same thing.
