Hello everyone,

My 1985 500 SEL needs the following:

Rear Window
Rear Shocks
Rear Tire wells (due to rust)
Rear-Passenger Door

I've recently found a 1989 420SEL and want to know if the rear window, shocks, door and body are compatible with my 1985 500SEL.

To sum it up: I'm planning to do some Frankenstein movements and want to know if the 420SEL is a good candidate.

Thanks in advance for your insight --

doors, window and wheel wells will fit, the shocks will depend on self leveling suspension or not, and even with SLS there may be a change between 85 and 89, I cannot remember ATM.

If the 500SEL is Gen I I think you will have some issues fitting the outside plastic trim on the new door. (I recall that the Gen I and II are different in that matter)

Doors itselfs are nearly the same in Gen I and II. The only difference is the hole, where the wiring goes through. There are 2 round holes in Gen I and one oval in Gen II. You can get Adapters at MB. Everything else is the same. Gen II cladding fits to Gen I doors.
