Those with a strong memory may recall I purchased a 1988 300CE "Nero" last winter as a spring project, the car was a bit rough when she was pulled (literally) from her temporary grave but showed promise wearing its original 040 Black paint on a 100% rust free body and a genuine Lorinser body kit, overall it was nothing a little..err lot of elbow grease and cash couldn't fix! :surrender:

Initially the car did not start, the battery wasn't holding juice and the car quickly fried my jumper box so a new battery was put in. and what do you know? Car started right up! After a tune up and oil change the car ran great! Of course when you shifted it into gear nothing happened.. So the car also received a rebuilt transmission!

Other bits replaced include new fuse bank, EHA, brake pads/sensors, air filter, battery cables, plus numerous new relays and electrical components. The 'pick up and go' was now noticeably better than with my '90 300E that has 70k less miles

On the cosmetic side the biggest changes have been the Hella european headlights and wipers, euro amber turn signals, 94/95 tails, and the cracked front Lorinser bumper was repaired/painted (but not by me). A full detail and paint correction, polish, plus wax brought its 040 black back to life.

When I first got it the interior had been partially disassembled by the previous owner for reasons unknown, the windows and sunroof weren't doing much and the power seats were non-operating. So the interior saw new tach and oil pressure gauges, driver airbag, seat switches, replacement LCD temperature display, various trim pieces, lots of new switches/buttons, some new wood, and a Pioneer stereo with ipod connector hidden in the ashtray.

And here's how she looks now..

my favorite :)

While she's certainly not a perfect garage queen, I'm quite pleased with the transformation and have learned a huge amount about these cars during the process!
I'll likely be putting her up for sale shortly as I still can't drive more than one of these W124's at a time, though if nobody bites it may be the 300E that sees the boot :D

Speaking of cosmetics, what becomes of the wheels that came with it?

Nice work there, young man!

It's really amazing how much the Euros tighten up the look of the front end

Danke! Yes the Hellas make a HUGE difference, the US wipers were quite a drag as well, I find the slim euro wipers even out the proportions quite nicely

elbeik, the wheels are Mille Miglias, perfect fitment for the car and decent tires on them as well so they stayed, if I end up keeping the car long enough we'll no doubt see some AMG monoblocks take their place :D

Thanks to everyone, obviously I couldn't have done it without the forums help!

I'll be posting her in the 'For Sale' section soon, hopefully she'll go to another enthusiast, really wish I could keep them all :crybaby2:
