Hello everyone.

I notice my car's first gear of the automatic transmision is shifted at 3000 RPM from first gear to second gear.

I wonder it is normal????? If it is the problem, Can it be adjusted???? How?

What is the normal RPM for every gears shifted for my car.

Thanks

I want to say that the small yellow arrows on the speedometer represent the shift points under 'normal' acceleration but I've never been sure.

I asked a MB AMG big wig about that at the NYC Auto show. His anwser was the type of tranny and shifting system that we have was made to be shifted manually. And has evoled to what AMG's has now (8? speed automatic tap levers) on the steering wheel.

So it's really up to you to shift the way you like too.

But when you leave it just in drive I've only heard that sl's shift up very fast. Especially if you drive like a woose.

The small yellow arrows represent the shift points at wide open throttle WOT. The 560 SL will shift into 4th gear at 123 MPH with the pedal to the medal. It's pretty cool to be doing 120
MPH and realize you have another gear left !!!.

Typically automatic transmissions shift according to load so the 560SL will shift at 6000 RPM at WOT and if its driven really gentle, it will shift at probably as low as 1500 RPM. A broken vacume modulator line will cause the transmission to shift unusually high and hard.

Your car starts out in second gear, unless you put it in "B".

I put my transmission on D on the time. I assume it will start from gear 1 and depend how much pressure I put on Gas pedal. The automatic transmision will auto-shifted to second and third. That is what I understand.
Are you said at 1500 RPM the transmission will shift to gear 2?

Are you sure the car is start from gear 2 after a long stop, even I left the gear level in "D" ?????
The stock design of the 560SL will start out in second gear. If you put the pedal to the floor enough to activate the kick down switch it will down shift into first with enough delay to loose about a 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile.

As one person has suggested there is an undocumented feature. It you come to a complete stop and shift it in the B ,give it time to down shift and then move the lever to D it will start from that stop in first gear.

For normal driving just use D.

No it will start in second then shift to third and then 4th. The car has 4 gears. The transmission shift points are lad dependent. That means that going up hill at full throttle will cause the car to shift at ~ 6000 RPM. Gentle acceleration will bring the shift RPM down probably as low as 1500 RPM. Your results may vary.
