I am looking for a hard top for a 1986 560sl. I have found one for sale that is from a 1974 450 SL. Can anyone confirm that the 1974 450sl hard top will fit the 1986 560sl.

The top of the side latches are different but I think the rest is basically the same. If you do get it make sure the caps for the latches are there. That is the major difference and the tops do not interchange with the later model.

I have an excuse for my ignorance.
I only had the hardtop on once in the 16 years I owned my '74, and only once also on my '86.
Since 1988 my garage ceilings have been permanently decorated with hanging hardtops.

My apologies for misinforming the OP.

The tops interchange and AFAIK the latches and the rear glass on the very early ones are the only difference. I posted a pic in the CLAP thread of the early one.
