Hello all,

I have a 1985 280SL Manual Import and I'm thinking of selling and need some help pricing.

Here is the breakdown:

Blue with hardtop and new softtop.
Odometer stoped at 63K, however, I estimate it to be approx. 110K now.
All paper work including import papers.
Original paint and in very good condition.
Very good running condition
A/C
No accidents
1 very small spot with light rust (size of a quarter over rear driver wheel)

I need so help pricing. I'll be happy to answer any questions needed to get a better idea.

Thanks!

'85 manual is 5 speed. Mention of the R word just reduced the value. If it is there it is somewhere else.

Actually, the rust spot is in regards to a knick on the paint no being re-paired. There is no rust anywhere else on the car. The car is in the southeast. So, any idea of the value?

All 280 107s are imports.
The odometer is a $70.00 DIY fix.
The front axle carrier (subframe) defect needs to be addressed.

To an uneducated buyer it could fetch 12K. Informed buyer maybe 9K. My opinion with out a PPI. I hate to estimate value on the the limited information provided.

Nice car and good luck selling it. I love the color and looks to be in decent condition.

Thanks for the interest and help. Rowdie, what is the front axle carrier (subframe) defect you mentioned?

I was hoping I could get more specific pricing, although I realize it is hard to do without seeing the car. I have seen prices anywhere from $7 to $19,000. A huge difference.

So perhaps I could get some pricing listing in several different conditions. Excellent, Good, Poor. Thoughts?

Yup. And there's the rub.

There's the spread... although more like $4,000 to $19,000.

.

Pick a price and stick to it.

The way you've explained it and the shortage of pics I'll say $6,500.

The broken odo does you no favours. You "guess" 110K and I'll "guess" it's probably more.

Post more info and pics and the members here will give you a reasonably fair price.

But I hope you have thick skin.

No way. I learned my lesson on greyish color cars in 1974.

As for the 19K price range. Sounds like NADA pricing which is not realistic. A red/tan 280SL 5 speed sold for 12K a couple of months ago on Ebay. About 112K miles IIRC with recent maintenance by a respected Indy. Odo was functional. It had an AMG body kit.

Yea the broken odo is always a turn off. Where is the car located? I'd guess around the 7.5K-8.5K, unless you willing to go on and on with a long sales process.
I have a pretty nice 73 107 that I'm asking $8500 for, and I still have it after 30 days...although I haven't tried very hard to sell it. The 5 speed is the best selling point that you've got going. Throw it on ebay and see what happens. Lots of pics and lots of honest info will go a long way...I may throw mine on ebay and see what happens as well...
Good luck...

ANOTHER drive-by.
I just want a damn price. I don't want to be bothered by answering questions like:
Where am I located?
Has the timing chain been replaced?
How has the car been maintained and who did the work?
I couldn't even be bothered to fix the odometer for 50,000 plus miles. Don't you people understand ANYTHING?????? It is all about ME and what I want. I am trying to make a buck here and if I give you accurate information you may tell me something that I should disclose to a potential buyer that I am trying to screw.
Get it?????? So stop waiting MY time !!!!!
