I have a 1984 Mercedes 500sel that idles high, it was sitting for 6 years before i got it, and i have done all the brakes, fixed everything except the idle. I have checked the fuse atop the relay in the fuse box, and i know that the idle is electronically controlled. I am just stuck on what to do next, any Ideas?

how high? 1500?

If so, Likely the idle control unit. Bring 12V to the idle control valve, see if the engine shuts off.

Also, search around this has been covered in Great detail!

Yea ElRojo and others gave great ideas when I had the same issue. Could be a number of issues including the idle control unit and/or valve, vacuum issues, fuel/air mix... etc. Jonathan is right, start with the valve and unit. After replacing those mine cooled down to a crisp 650 in park and 550 in D. Mine was sitting for about 4 years before I got it too so not sure if there's something connected with long periods of inactivity and the idle control...
