hello,
I just purchased a 1984 w123 300d turbo.
I am also looking to purchase a complete turbo unit from an 85 300d w123 at a low price.
Are these turbos identical? if not, can i interchange some parts from it, as i want to rebuild the 84 turbo.

thanks again.

if i may add that i read something about a trap oxidizer??

I took the unit out to clean out any carbon build up that I could see.
Turns out the impeller is in bad shape. The ends look like they have been chewed on. I want to replace the impeller and anything else that may look worn.
Thanks for the reply.

If the '85 is a California model the turbocharger will have the ARV device attached to it as well as being slightly different.

Some models also have KKK units, while others have Garrett type snails.

Do a search on the differences of both, determine which one you have and get the same unit you have to avoid any problems upon installation of the new unit.

Great search button. They both have the KKK style. They are not California cars, but federal. According to the Russian decoder, the part numbers are identical.
The dealer wants $3500 for the complete turbo.
Parts cars rule!
Thanks for your help guys.

The 85 will have the ARV no matter what.

The 84 may or may not. You will want the one without if you are replacing.... car-part.com is your friend.

Another option is to have it rebuilt.. Big difference on it after.. Pulls really strong....
