I've been searching and searching, but i cant find any threads with the info that i need....

it seems really elementary, but i cant seem to find how to check the power steering fluid on my 1983 300TD...and i'm hoping that its just low fluid. I've been getting some major grindage when turning the steering wheel..

thanks in advance

Remove the cap from the steering pump, that is the reservoir for the fluid. You can easily identify the steering pump under the hood, since it's belt-driven.

ah, I got it now....."if it was a snake it'a bit me"

The top of the filter is sticking out on one side, is that low enough to make it hard to turn? I'm gonna top it off tomorrow, but it doesnt seem to me that it would seem so bad with such a seemingly small amount of missing fluid...

thanks for your help!!

After 25 years some hose might start "sweating".
Usually it is low-pressure returning hose.
Whole system takes like a cup of fluid.
5 tablespoons leak makes a big difference.
