Ok so I just scored a deal on an 82 300TD wagon. :D

360K miles rusty, but runs and drives. Blue smoke and sounds like one cylinder isn't firing right.
Needs 2 tires.
The interior needs a good cleaning and the rear hatch won't open.
No dash lights and the light over the the rear cargo area stays on too.

I hope to turn this into my daily driver soon.

If it where me I would start out on the motor
First would a compression check
I'll clean things up and then we'll move onto the engine.

How hard is it to re-ring on of these? I've done plenty of gas motors......

I got the rear seat in today and the interior cleaned up.

I did the "crack the injector lines" test to find the bad cylinder. #3 is the one. :(

Now to do a compression test and see if it's just and injector or the cylinder.

I'm sure hoping it's just the injector.

I don't have a FSM for this car so all I found was a compression PSI of 123ftlbs.

Is that correct?

May want to check the valve adjustment
Off the top of my head compression should be over 380 lb
 380psi

Ok thanks I'm going to check the compression tomorrow and we'll go from there.

I guess I'll need a FSM for this thing, or at least a manual for the engine anyway.

Yes valve adjustment will come once I get the problem figured out.......

Thanks Guys......

The valves may be the problem
It is a overhead cam so the valves get tighter with age
I am just learning these things doing a head gasket on one now
Now if it was the old Mpar could do that with my eye closed

I hear that, I could do an old Mopar with my eyes closed too. I just got done swapping injectors, adjusting the valves and timing the injection pump on my Cummins.

My Ram is just yard art till it gets a new injector pump upgraded lift pump and injectors this will be its third vp44 pump :(
I'm running a 90 VE44 first gen and my father in-law just gave me his 89 first gen due to wiring issues in the cab. (dash smoke and not running) I'll be dropping that engine in my 78 Dodge crew cab. :D

Now as soon as I get this Mercedes running correctly I'll have a good daily driver for work.

I bought a wagon because I work commercial construction and have lots of tools, ladders, and a small scaffold.

I can't believe how much cargo area there in in this thing with the rear seats folded down!

Not good news, compression test came out bad. 90psi on #3 :crybaby2:

I'm just a tad pissed at the seller.......

I guess I'll pull the valve cover but I doubt that the valves are my problem.

Squirt some oil down the hole test again if it comes up you will know its the rings or bad piston
That thought crossed my mind but I was too pissed off at the moment. Put it back together so I can move it around. It will have to wait till next weekend now. too much side work in the garage to mess with it.
