1981 Silver Blue and MB Tex interior?

Hiya everyone,

Well I was digging in the glovebox of my '81 300D and I found the original window sticker! Can you believe this car went for $29,295 new? I noticed that it said the original color is "930 Silver Blue Metallic". My uncle claims that his '78 300D is Silver Blue Metallic, but his definitely has blue in the color, whereas mine just appears to be plain silver. I'm attaching a pic of mine to this post. Can anyone tell me who is right here? Pics would be even better! I'm planning on getting the car repainted someday, and I'd really like to keep the color the same as when it rolled out of the factory.

Also: the window sticker also says "232 Upholstery- Blue Leather". This whole time I was led to believe that my car has the blue MB Tex upholstery! The material on the seats doesn't seem like leather, it seems more like a thicker heavy-duty grade of vinyl. Is there an easy way to tell if the car has MB Tex or Leather? Could it be that Mercedes falsely advertised the car as having a leather interior?

Hehe I know this post might seem a little dumb - but if anyone has some information and/or answers for me, I'd really appreciate it! I'm new to the whole MB thing, I just want to learn a little more about these cars! :) Anyway thanks in advance for the help, you guys are great!

Mercedes Interior codes

Here's what the interior code means

Interior codes have 3 digits

First digit will tell you what its made out of

First digit with "1" -MB tex

First digit with "2" -Leather

First digit with "3" -Velour

First digit with "4" -Amaretta

First digit with "5" -Exclusive Leather

First digit with "0" -Fabric

The Last digit will tell you color

Last digit is "1" -Black

Last digit is "2" -Blue

Last digit is "3" -Brazil

Last digit is "4" -Palomino, Saddle or Date

Last digit is "5" -Parchment, Cream or Mushroom

Last digit is "6" -Green

Last digit is "7" -Red

Last digit is "8" -Grey

So a 232 interior would surely be Blue "real" Leather

Hey veedub, thanks for the reply! Ok so it looks like my car was originally built w/ the real leather interior - but I just can't help but think its vinyl! Just doesn't look like leather to me. I'm going to try to post a pic of the seats so you can tell me if its MB-tex or not. I'm thinking that maybe the car originally had the leather, but sometime in its life the seats were swapped out. Either that or the leather used in cars of this vintage was just cheesy...

Anyway thanks again for the help! If you have any pics that might help me decide what's really in my car - I'd really appreciate it! :)

If you post a close up picture of the grain in the least worn spot you can find (rear seat maybe?) and I'll give you my opinion of what it is.

It might be a while before I can post a pic, as I don't have a digital camera handy. But hey, I really appreciate all your help with this! Do you happen to have any of the exterior color samples? I'm still not quite so sure that mine is the "silver blue" that its supposed to be. I don't really see any blue in the color at all, whereas my uncle's '78 300D, you can definitely tell that its got some blue in there - the color is also called "silver blue" on his window sticker... So I'm a little confused on that! But anyway thanks again for all the help, its been great! :)
