I am restoring a 1981 380SL and was wondering what model Becker radio (?) was original factory equipment? Also, did the radio take a specific MB pig tail? The SL currently has an Alpine 7272 that has marginal performance so I am thinking of removing it but am worried that all the wiring has been spliced and the fit. I recently re-installed the original MB 3.5 front speakers and restored the speaker covers / clips which the installers had butchered. TIA Andrew

Hi!

If you have the Owner's Manual you can see that there were at least 4 different optional radios at the time... I think they all came with Becker Europa (at least in Europe). But they could come with Becker Grand Prix or Mexico or Mexico Electronic (the most expensive). If you don't have the original documents check with any Mercedes official parts dealer: if it had an optional radio they will have the code attached to the chassis number.
