Good afternooon all....
I have a 81' 380SL convertible. About 10,000 miles ago the timing chain broke and had to get the valves and engine rebuilt. Got that done and this afternoon a rod, bearings or piston broke and alot of metal clanging noise is coming from the driver side of the engine...I am contemplating the following:
1. Selling car as is
2. Fixing car at auto shop
3. Pulling the engine out myself and getting it rebuilt
4. Pulling engine out myself and replacing with a rebuilt motor.
The problem is that i do not know approx how much any of these would cost.
The interior of the car is good...having issues with the A/C (needs amp and servo) to work, otherwise not sure how much to put the car up for sale as it...2,000 or more..what do you all think???

I'm sure the auto shop will cost approx 3000 to 4000 bucks, so anyone know the cost of a rebuilt motor for this vehicle and or how much i should sell the car for?

Thank you so much

Gary

thank you to everyone....I am seriously contemplating on keeping it or not. I feel as if im already too deep into the car. Im about 10,000 into it right now thats with the price of the car and the last engine build...and i really didnt want to spend another 4,000 or so to get it back on the road...ugh i hate times like this. Good thing is this is not our only vehicle.
