Greetings! Is there a special tool for installing the upper control arm on a 1981 300CD. I am having difficulty applying sufficient force to the torsion bar to permit re-insertion of the bolt through the pivoting end of the control arm. Thanks...Kim
Let the car sit like it does with the wheels on, equal weight on both sides of the suspension.. That's my suggestion
And check out the great W123 section of this forum! Good luck
I went to the hardware store and bought the longest bolt with the correct threads, I used the bushings and tightened down, this brought the torsion bar into place where it remained until I could get the old bolt and washers back in.
I did this, and the entire procedure, with the car resting on the lower control arm via a jack stand, as per the FSM.
Thanks for the tips. Using the tip from mbkomfort, making sure the car was in "level" operating position, I was able to align and insert the upper control arm bolt. Thanks everyone!
