I think CARAT by DUCHATELET Benzs are fascinating. I'm amazed they haven't been more popular, judging the low selling prices I've seen over the years, especially since Mercedes Benz approved of the firm's upgrades. I mean one look at the interior makes you want a drink, call some escorts & have a party. They deserve way more love, don't you think?

They are cool aren't they. Years ago we had a member with one, an SEL I think it was. It had one of those weird boomerang aerials on the boot that American cars used to have. Haven't seen one owned here on BW for a long time.
The very few that come up in the UK are mild in mods, more like just wheels and steering wheel kind of thing.

Carat was more of a limo and armoring company, rather than a performance company. Historically there has rarely been value in limos and armored cars. Their quality was impeccable, but the aesthetics of their wheels and body kits was not as good as the tuners of the time such as Zender, AMG and Koenig and Lorinser.

Interesting.. Yes, I agree most limos, even MB limos rarely become collectables. I read somewhere that Carat by Duchatelet is still in business making Armored vehicles.

I was surprised when this one on Bring a Trailer only bid to $7K, I remember seeing it on LA cragslist for $12K. Even though it's 6 cylinder I was very close to taking a look just because it's so damn cool.

For sale read the comments on the auction , it’s worth every bit of its price if you don’t care that it’s slow

Exactly, why I didn't pursue it any further, "slow".. If it was a V8 I'd be on it.

Wonder if the seller would part out the front & rear bumpers, maybe I'll make a Carat by Duchatelet SEC.:LOL:
