Thank you to @rumb for doing basically everything needed to get this car from Colorado to the East coast for me. Top notch guy for sure!

I have documented the majority of my w126 adventures in an epic hijack of a thread called "I found a euro 500se" http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/2708641-i-found-euro-500se.html started by @Rockin_Scirocco This is the first of those cars that was not definitely purchased as some type of parts car for that 500se AMG, but of course it was purchased as a possible parts car for it, as all my purchases must have some perception of logic behind them. The pedals could go towards a stick shift getrag 265 conversion on that 500se. The m110 and manual trans could be very nice in a 107 too since I've got e tea pedals for that too. The interior is the same as another SE I bought in that thread, a euro 1983 380se (nice power in that!) which is currently being beat to hell.

This 280se car is particularly interesting to me with the m110 I love and a stick shift and SLS I've never seen or had before. Heck, it could be in the 500se and I wouldn't even know it. I don't recall seeing the reservoir in any of my other car though. I honestly wonder if the SLS could be transferable to any of my other cars, like maybe my 1978 450slc 5.0 custom convertible that carries too much weight in the back with that convertible top.

Anyway, what's a thread without pictures? Right?

You can see it has damage and needs a rear passenger quarter window. That can come from the 1989 300se parts car, if not an entire door from another car.

And here on the east coast next to the 1986 300se:

I will put the video links in the next post (and edit in the thread link for the 500se).

It's either my age or this car looks familiar to me. Didn't Firewater or his brother sell one really cheap some years ago?

It's probably age. :)

The car was very fun to drive for the 2 weeks I had it. It felt like a totally different car than my 1991 300se. The 4 speed with the M110 is a great combo.

I kept the 27cent I vacuumed out of the car, hope you dont mind..... oh yeah and the 5 pfennig :devil

I assumed you would have kept at least the sheepskins. :) The cool part for you is that I had no idea what the car really even looked like when you bought it. You could have taken anything you wanted off it. :)

I'm thrilled with all the help you provided me with this car. I'm deeply in your debt.

I would love to know the history on the car. It looks like the previous owner had a Loveland, CO address and purchased/titled the car May 1, 2015. So I would guess it was most likely an inexpensive enthusiast purchase, someone who lost their interest in the car and decided to pass it on. @rumb might know more than me. I do believe i have the phone number of the seller, but he didn't want to deal with a long distance purchase. That's where @rumb came up HUGE! :)

I just ran the russian vin check site on this car, and it was a radio delete and also an ABS car too. It has some great options IMO. Checking VIN for Mercedes-Benz WDB12602210006846 | CARInfo

And here's the 1983 380se that I will use for interior parts most likely. The multi-contour front seat parts might come over too, but it looks kind of like a blood pressure tester tool. Either that or a penis pump. Checking VIN for Mercedes-Benz | CARInfo

If you happen to know their names or location, this wold be interesting information. I love gathering vehicle history if possible.

Edit: I've reached out to the seller, and it doesn't sound to me like he is an enthusiast. I see that he makes custom musical instruments. So I'm doubting that this is @Firewater .

I'm not even sure it's even the same car, Fonzi. Probably not.

I've come to that conclusion too. The seller says he is going to look for any records he might have on it after the holidays.

I put a few gallons of premium in and tightened up the throttle linkage, so full throttle is really full throttle, not half-throttle. Then I took it for a drive, followed by sitting in the passenger seat while @rwd4evr (Jason) took it for a valley cruise. Holy crap I was praying for mercy, scared we would end up in a guard rail or wrapped around a tree. The car sure is fun to drive. Not quite like my 1981 280slc with a slightly higher rear end.

We also discovered where the lines from the accumulators are not connected to anything. It has bilstien 1184 shocks in the back. I assume it must have stiffer springs than original too.

With SLS, ABS, stick shift and radio delete, it sure was a neat car at one point.

This car passed inspection last week without doing much of anything to it. I know I wired up the throttle linkage because a bushing was wasted, maybe added some fluids, tuned the mixture a bit, leaning it just before going through inspection. The car passed inspection with flying colors.

So I finally made a few enhancements.

Temporary Gen2 driver door handle. Whoo hoo!

Take note that the gen2 handles don't match the bolts up front. I will out a gen1 on later.

The duct tape triangle window was a high quality job, but since I've got a parts car, this seemed like a no-brainer.

Fun to drive!

I just now noticed that I never wrote in this thread that this car has received a "stay of execution" and will be assembled back into a driver.

Why? Because I found a clutch-brake pedal cluster on Peachparts and bought that. The pedals were really the only part that I would have needed from this car for the mythical v8 w126 manual transmission conversion.

I had planned on combining the 380se and this 280se with the same interior and exterior colors, but it seems both can continue to be driver vehicles and provide good service, maybe not luxury, but still good A-to-B cars for someone.

I believe famous Bob is brining a gray front door handle and gray velour rear passenger door panel to the east coast for me this weekend. If I put a radio that does more than play tapes, and a working antenna on this car, it could actually be a decent vehicle!

I will also grab the rear window from the 300se I'm parting out, and consider the difficulty level if installing it.
