When I removed the vinyl covering, the cloth sort of crumbled into nothing. The parts that were hidden by the ribs of the speaker opening had to be peeled off. I think the cloth was black so that is what I replaced it with. In the US, Hobby Lobby has a fabric section with sewing circle ladies who matched me up pretty well with replacement black fabric.

Nice one Brad - now that I think about it, I do have a spare speaker cover to experiment with so I might take the cloth off that one and see if I can get a match at some arts and crafts store.

Thank you benztag! Still a long way to go - in the US next week to pick up a couple of bits and pieces to help with the project. I'll be lucky if the car's back on the road in late Q1 2020.

I was getting itchy so took the central console veneer for a test drive. Some pics below: before, after 3k, 5k and 7k sanding, and finally after buffing with Menzerna 3 (800) compound and polishing with Menzerna 4 sealant using my faithful DA polisher. It took an hour - it鈥檚 not concours but considering the limited effort and minimum investment I鈥檓 happy with the return. :p Also, it would probably be easy to overdo it - at least so my untrained eye sees it.

Spent some quality time with the gearbox surround, and throughout the day I invested 2h in elbow grease - same as yesterday: wet sanding, buffing and polishing except, rinse and repeat. My intent was glass surface, however having reviewed the "before" pics I realized it wasn't glass to begin with - so instead I focused on making it as smooth as practically reasonable. As a result all hills are gone, just some valleys left - not concours, but will suffice for my garage queen.

I will give the central console another massage next week as in daylight I saw it can be improved.:)

Thank you Djenka, I think we're all infected to a lesser or bigger degree as we probably wouldn't have lasted that long :D the chart by @PanzerPuff you're referring to, could you share URL? I don't think I've seen it yet.

Hadn't been following this thread. Nice work miko.
It's been a while, but I can relate. having done a lot of same stuff early on. No wood on the early 107s, so that part was easier.

That's interesting Graham :D I think site displays the flag based on user's IP - I'm in the US this week which would explain it. If you hoover over the flag it still states "Galway, Ireland" - I'll check it out on Friday when I return.

I will have to check that when we arrive in US in January. Maybe it is something BW should correct. It is misleading.
