On your car (on most of them) reupholstering the seats is fairly straight forward. You will need 2 pads (seat and back) and 2 covers (seat and back) for each seat (2 in the front and one big one in the back). You might need to repair the metal springs in the seat - I did not but sometimes you do.

I've done this job and its big but not terribly complex and a careful amateur can get excellent results.

This web site has photos and part numbers - I did not use them and cannot say anything about them. There are others so shop around.

Expect to pay 1,500 to 2,000 for all the parts. Also expect your seats to be dramatically improved when you are done.

Good luck

From the start of production till September 1979, the interior colors and codes are as follows:

Black, code 9029
Blue, code 5052
Tobacco, code 8171
Bamboo, code 8233
Parchment, code 8234
Moss, code 6063

The colors went through a change after that, then again for model year 1983. All years of the W123 300CD carpet and seats (1977 through 1985) should interchange, other than the color. The EPC though does list different part numbers for the front carpets and seats depending on serial number, but suspect the parts will fit. The headrest changed shape for the 1980 and newer models. And the grain in the vinyl door panels and dash changed (and possibly the seats) I believe for the 1980 model year.

I recommend that, if you live in the US, that you sign up for a free subscription to the Mercedes EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog). Then you can compare part numbers and see what parts fit which models. The site will ask for your credit card for US residence verification, but you will not be charged.
