This car sits over winters but was running last Fall. When I try starting it now, it will fire just a couple of revolutions...not making it to "idle". Then it appears flooded and won't fire again (plugs dripping). It will behave the same way after it sits for an hour or so. OR...if I pull the fuel pump relay. W/O the relay it will go ahead and burn off the residual fuel and idle for 10 seconds or so.

After the burn off, it will start again for a couple revs with the relay back in...then flood.

Could there be a lack of fuel supply CONTROL on startup? Not sure what device is suppose to reduce fuel to injectors.

Or...might the diaphragm in the fuel distributor be bad? I have decent return pressure on the airflow plate, so I believe piston is operating.

I just took ownership of the car, but know it was running last fall. Previous owner may have adjusted fuel supply valve...? Is there a factory setting there?

Any input would be appreciated before I send FD and WUR in for rebuild.

I found On youtube several videos that address that problem just type in 450slc fuel injection as your key words and they cover problems from the fuel dist.to removal and testing your injectors.Rebuilding the FD isnt very hard if you can rebuild a carb you can rebuild it and the kits can be had very cheap ebay compared to haveing it rebuilt

There probably are some good YouTube videos, but I would assume that they show you how to test for leaks and how to do a pressure test.

The k-jet system is a purely pressure driven system. Low pressure results in a rich mixture. There are many components that could be causing the enrichment.

This is my favorite educational video to explain how the whole system works.
That video shows an upflow system where the air goes up past the airflow sensor plate, but our cars have down flow, but all principals are the same.

As for what to do??
- check for leaks:
--- fuel return line from distributor
--- accumulator small hose
- check pressure (requires tool you can buy at harbor freight for k-jet systems for about $100)
--- at pump
--- at distributor
^^^ surely others will have other recommendations.

That's excellent Fonzi…and I also did check out some other youtube videos last night. I just sent the FD in for rebuild this afternoon. I want to have that done regardless, so I figured that was a solid place to start. too much crazy stuff happens inside there and my guess is that it is allowing too much fuel in. I also notice some drippy injectors, but that still wouldn't explain why it wouldn't go ahead and run after it was started.

thanks Guys.
