Sometimes it starts perfectly, instantly. Other times when I turn the key to the start position nothing happens. If I keep trying it eventually engages the starter and it starts up. My first thought is the ignition switch. Anything else I should check before ordering the part? Is the ignition switch fairly easy to replace? Any advice is greatly appreciated. This is my first post, so thank you in advance to anyone that can help a newcomer like me. :)

Is it an automatic? If so, there is the start inhibitor switch on the transmission which can cause trouble. Try starting it in N instead of P. An other possibility is the starter solenoid which can be stuck. The ignition switch is probably the last thing.
