I'm certain that i'll feel like a total idiot when one of you will tell me how to do it, but here it goes... I'm having trouble pulling off the steering wheel pad of my 1973 280. Yes, i'm told to pull it on the corners but somehow my wheel pad doesn't budge. Anyone can tell me where the retaining clips are so that i know where to pull exactly as those old car parts feel so fragile?

Don't know about your 280, but according to 107 chassis manual, on the 73 107, you pull up at the corners opposite the steering wheel spokes.

Are you just taking the steering wheel off? Or trying to get at contacts?

the top and bottom plastic edge have a lip that catches on a metal edge behind it. pull the bottom down and the then out, starting in a corner may help. at least that's how a 1977 wheel works.

I may have read manual incorrectly. For 73-78 wheels, it says:

Pull off padded plate from signal carrier in upward direction. Pulling off is best done at a corner of the padded plate in range of one of the two steering wheel spokes.
Not exactly clear!
