There is very little you can do to boost performance, the 190e was not made for performance, it is a luxury car, honestly if you want performance buy a performance car, a used C32 maybe? By the time you spend all the money to do the engine swap and all the problems that probably will follow, you will had spent way more than it may have been to just get a performance car from the beginning.

I know you love the body style of the 190e but you have to decide what is most important.

fill out your user CP and let us know where you are. if you are looking to get rid of your 190e, perhaps someone close can give it a home it deserves and not on some auction block.

if you want performance get a 2.3 16v..bottom line a 190e is luxury class from the 80's to 90's a 2.3-16 is luxury and performance

Agreed. The 2.3 16v would be the option but you will have to search for a nice one, with records, and then you have the cost of buying it which would probably be $$, and then you need to decide if you want to run it or baby it, I would baby it because it is a classic.

what are you guys talkign about... if he has a 2.6 that is pretty much the same performance as a 2.3 16 so there is no piotn getting a 2.3 16

second of all, you can do A LOT for a 2.6 or 2.3 or 2.3 16

they are all mechanically injected and distributor systems

if you really want to mod it, go over to turbobanditen.se

they have custom EFI SYSTEMS , DISTRIBUTORLESS systems and turbos for your 2.6

with just the EFI/ EDIS upgrade, your 166 hp 2.6 will be around 200hp when nicely tuned.. add in a nice turbo and you can go up to 400-500... that website has turbo kits that can give you up to 600-800hp for your 2.6

If you want a lot of performance you'd better have the $$$$ to do it. These aren't like Hondas where $500 gets you a bolt-on turbo kit and $200 gets you a complete suspension. Try more like thousands for turbo, engine swap, etc.

The way i'm regarding the whole 190 "performance enhancement" discussions is quite simple..

If you wanted a sporty, performant 80's german sedan.. you bought a E30, If you wanted build quality, innovation, luxury, prestige.. you bought a 190.

Those who had the money could get the 16V as performant cars... but bottom line is, these aren't amg powered track monsters most of us wished they were (Except of course for a couple of expensive alternatives, ie cossi's, brabus' and so on..)

You could spend thousands upon thousands on a standard "proper" 190 and get them that way.... but why? just spent 30% of what you would spend and get an E30... if you like the 190 styling chances are you also like the E30 styling.

I know most of us adhere strictly to the whole mercedes vs bmw mentality, but jokes aside.. The E30's are more performant than our 190's..

Now...before i get a whole lot of hate hehe, my statements above DO NOT include the m3's 16V's and so on.. i'm only talking about E30 318 vs 190 1.8, E30 325 vs 190 2.6

But on the other hand.. the E30 feels no where near what the 190 feels like. Its the age old Luxury vs performance.

So in conclusion... You have 5000$ and less and want performance in your german sedan.. go for E30's.

..then again, IF you have the money and are willing... then ignore my entire post and go crazy on the 190, that only person the will regret it is the wife.

yes everybody knows it is easy to get a performance car.... but the man likes his car...

i understand his pain :p

i love my 190E too and i could get some other car that is cheap and fast... but how many people REALLY have EFI/EDIS/TURBO 190e's? not many.. and when you do have one, people are overwhelmed by it..

it is DEFINATLY worth it.

hasnt anybody ever seen pumpish's m103 turbo that pushes over 650hP?

well you dont have to buy his parts.. you can just do what he did... find a fuel rail that fits, injectors, triggerwhjeel etc and get megasquirt. There is some guy who did it for like 300 dollars or something in one of the forums. Everybody says there is a noticable performance increase and good mpg.
i have a 2.6 too and i will be doing this once i fix my oil leak and get all the parts.
