I recently purchased a 1992 190E 2.6 with 104,000 miles. The car was fully serviced before purchase and runs great. The Car runs nice and cool when driving but when in idle it over heats pretty quickly all the way up the 120 mark. I noticed my 300E did that a little bit as well. Any idea what would cause this or is it normal for older mercedes? I Wouldn't think it should be normal for any car.

Anything helps.

Thank you,

Austin

I knida like this form of 'wanted' ad. He posts his problem and we have to guess what part to sell him to fix it ;)

But yes, you need a fan clutch.

it could be a clutch or a bad thermal switch or bad wiring by the clutch or as simple as a bad ground. search the w201 forum you will find a million answers.

Always good to replace the thermostat while you're at it - never know when it was done last (and your car is 18 years old). Takes about 5 minutes. Just need a 10mm wrench for the three bolts (do not over tighten them). Costs about $18. That could be also why the car is heating up as the old one is not opening up. Check the all the hoses to make sure they are hot once the car reaches running temp and that will give you a good indication.
