I recently bought a Limited Edition 190E with the red and black Recaro seats. The problem is the front driver quarter panel was hit and busted the wheel. The damage looks somewhat bad and still trying to determine if i want to fix or just part it out. I need opinions on what to do ! I will take pictures tomorrow to give you guys an idea of the damage.

Of course I have pictures to follow. I was just excited picking it up yesterday night that I had to post about it and get people interested in it.

Looks like the engine was messed with by the previous owner seeing as the air filter is not on. Also when the car got into that accident it lost most fluids. No oil or coolant is in the engine.

Hopefully these picture are enough for some opinions on the car. If anybody needs more specific pictures I can go take more.

From here it looks like the control arm is bent, but it could just be the angle of the photo. I'd inspect that thoroughly. If it is indeed bent you'll want to even more thoroughly inspect the control arm mount. If that is fractured, tweaked or bent, I'm not sure the cost of the repair will be worth the ultimate resale value of the car. It would probably be less expensive to buy another 190e and transfer all the parts off of this one to it.

PM'd you in case you decide to part it out.

THANK you for a decent reply and opinion. Guides me a little bit in what direction to head in and some specific components to check out. When I try to turn the steering wheel the left wheel moves but doesn't turn straight center and can't even get it past the current position.

Possibly something is broken or off on the steering that controls both movements going left and right. What is that called? Sorry for being vague, Im terrible at descriptions.

Looking again at the pics you sent and that control arm definitely appears bent. The upper and lower spring perches are visibly misaligned and the sway bar is no longer in its mount. You can see how the spring is distorted. You won't be able to turn the wheel because the impact probably bent the steering linkages too which is no surprise based on the look of things.

This photo might be a good reference for you:

The control arms are the blue triangular things and tie rods, which are steering linkages, are the orange rods. (These are custom tie rods but the image still works as a reference.) Those two tie rods connect to a center drag link which might be bent too depending on the impact. You won't be able to steer or straighten out the wheels until you replace the steering components, and by the looks of it you won't be able to replace steering components unless you replace the control arm.

Also in this image take note of the two points where a control arm mounts to the frame. There will be bushings here that will probably need replacing. It might be impossible to eyeball it if these mounting points are only slightly bent, but if these mounts are indeed bent you've got a lot more work on your hands.

Hope this helps.

This helps tremendously! Definitely gives me a great idea on where to start and what to look out for on the steering problem. I'll be checking out all the components you mentioned tomorrow to see how messed up the control arm is and can assess where to go from that point.

If it turns out the damage is worse then I anticipated then the car will be parted out!

Parts that will be of value.
-Sportline steering wheel
-Sportline springs
-Sportline tight ratio steering box
-Black/red Recaro seats
-Carbon fiber interior trim pieces

That's all I can think of now, would their be any other parts of value on this Limited Edition 190E that I missed?

The trunk lid and the spare tire plastic and carpet covers are unique as well.

Rims are unique too.

The suspension has different front control arms, sway bars, and shocks but not worth pulling unless they have been replaced recently. The shocks for a Sportline are difficult to get. When I ordered mine, I had to get them through Mercedes, they shipped from Germany (none were available in the US), and at the time, I purchased the last pair of rear shocks left in stock in Europe. They may have more now or they may be NLA. The control arms are not too bad. That front sway bar may be damaged. The rear sway bar on a Sportline is actually smaller than stock for some reason. I replaced mine with a normal 2.6 sway bar.

If you replace anything, replace it in pairs, especially the control arms or you will get uneven tire wear.

I totally rebuilt the suspension on my Sportline Limited Edition for about $1600 last year, the majority of that was for parts.

Best of luck, I would potentially be interested in the rims if you part it out.

If the tile is clear, the car looks worthwhile to be saved. Struts look like cheap replacement KYB's?
I run the shorter stroke Bilstein sport with sportline springs in mine. I heard Sachs Boge made the original short stroke HD sportline struts, but could never find a non MB parts number for them?

I didn't know the trunk lid was different (except de badged in Europe) ?

I know the 16V has additional support in the front hood to keep it from flexing / slightly lifting up at high speeds.
Not sure whether Sportline's have the same reinforced hood?

I didnt know that the trunk lid was different either. If you are interested in the rims then we could work out a fair deal. Since one of the rims is already trashed i have the spare in the trunk that completes the set.

I also forgot to mention that the Sportline shifter would be available if I part it out. So far it's not looking so great on being able to replace the damaged parts. It can be done BUT the cost effectiveness on it might not be worth it. I'm still going through the car and finding out more things that need attention.

Really the only difference is that it doesn't have holes drilled in it for the badges.

Thats not too much of a difference. After going through the car some more i have decided it will indeed be parted out!. Anybody who is interested please message me or post on here which part you are after. I will also be posting parts on Ebay since their is more of a customer base on there that could possibly be looking for specific items from this Limited Edition 190E.

Items that haven't been officially dibbed but will go quick!
-Sportline steering wheel
-Sportline gear shifter
-Sportline tight ratio steering box
-Rims
-Sportline springs
-Sportline Black/red Recaro seats
-Carbon fiber interior pieces

All of these items will be going on ebay regardless. I will be price matching/making cheaper prices that are already up there from other members. I see a Sportline Steering box on ebay for around $650 but mine will be listed for $500. I see a Sportline gear knob on there for 150$ with 15 people watching the auction. Lots of interest for that item. I'll be putting it up for 125$ free ground shipping.

The items which will be the toughest to package will be the seats. I would prefer local pickup but wouldnt mind shipping once i factor the price into the final cost. Price is TBD on those, still have to cross reference prices for sportline seats on ebay. I inquired about a set of Sportline seats from a member about a month ago and he wanted $1500 plus $500 for shipping. The seats weren't anything special except they were sportline. I feel as these seats are more rare considering only 700 were made and have the highly desirable Black/Red Recaro combo.

Message me if truly interested in any items because the ones i post on ebay will be more pricey and would do a better price for benzworld members. Cheers

I think I have been told $1300 shipped for a set of these seats. Your seats are weird however, this is what most Limited Edition rear seats look like:

How many miles does the car have?
I may be interested in the springs.
I don't think I want to deal with shipping rims though so count me out on them. I am hoping to refinish mine.

It's sorta sad to see another of these go, I can't imagine there are many of the Limited Editions left. That's probably why they are going up in value.

The car has around 260K miles on it, dont know the exact mileage figure but i can check it out tomorrow. The previous owner before me decided he didnt like the red in the back and applied something to make it black, very strange and not sure why he would do that??? I will be cleaning out the back tomorrow to try and get the red back and on the head rests too. I didn't notice that until you pointed it out but remembered the previous owner mentioned something about making the red inserts black but wondered exactly what he meant, well now i know!

Dibs on the steering wheel?
You got first pick on the steering wheel and i just messaged you back on the price i'm selling it at. Current price for one of these is $350 on ebay but thats not what i will sell it at. It will be $100 cheaper but if you decide price is too high the wheel will go on ebay to be sold faster then the other one going for $350.
