Hi,
I'm in the market for a 2.3-16, I have found one for merely 3000, possibly haggle him down to 2500, all it needs is a timing chain and tensioner, if it needs head-work I still think it's a steal...I need to know if the car has an Interference engine, if it's a bad idea to buy it, and if the price is right. Thanks.

What are some more specifics about the car. I bought mine cheap as well, but have spent well over $2,500 in repairs. Now keeping in mind that I spun a bearing and needed a new/rebuilt engine. Remember to 'focus on go, not show.' These are great vehicles to own and with the right kind of maintenance will be the best acr you've ever owned. I recommend checking out mb190.tripod.com which is full of any and all info about these cars.

Pat,
The car is a Black 1986 190e 2.3-16, it has been lowered on H&R springs, has exhaust work, euro headlights, bilstein shocks, there are no leaks, I believe the paint and interior are ok, it has 127,000 miles. At the moment it is broken down in San Francisco, I live in Los Angeles. It will cost around $450 to get it down here. I believe my dad and I can repair the chain and tensioner. But if it needs head-work that's another story.
Thanks for your time.

I am also looking at a Black 190e 2.3-16 in Santa Monica, it needs a new driver side front fender, paint, interior work, I believe it has 150,000 miles. The way the fender was damaged and paint scratched was that it went through a fence and I believe it went on it's side. This would be a lot closer for me. He is asking $7000, I don't think it's worth it for that price...maybe $5500 or $6000. What do you guys think about price and damage? Thanks

$7000 is way too much for a car in that condition w/ those miles. I would REALLY look at the one that needs work. If you are mechanically inclined it will make a fun project car that you will love once you are done.
