I have four 18" wheels from a 2002 G500 that I would like to trade for a good set of Mercedes 16" wheels.

will the 16" wheels fit, I thought the calipers were bigger in 2002.

The front brake disc was ventillated and increased the caliper size in 1994. The MB 16" alloys for the 463 series will fit all 463's, including the G500.

Good luck finding a complete set of 16's.
One thing for sure, you cannot buy a set from Mbenz.
Dutch was the last man I know of that had a set. You missed out on those.
If you can find 3 more 16's, I would consider giving up my new spare as the 18 is the same diameter. I got it from Mbenz before they decided the 16 would no longer be sold in the USA. It has never been on the ground. Maybe some of the guys here will chip in.
I suggest you keep the 18's as the mbenz boys may require then on your G before they work on it.

I must confess, I bought Dutch's wheels; thanks again Dutch. However I still need a spare 16. Sean from eurotruck has them I believe. I also thought they are/were an option in Europe, so I can't understand why that option isn't available to Americans. Probably the average Joe here would sue MBUSA for tipping the thing.... thus the warning on the sunvisor. DUH! I believe the Mercedes 16" wheels are the only way to go; more choices for tires. Good luck on your search. One question,is the height the same for a 265-70-16 and 265-60-18? I ask because I'm going to buy a soft spare cover from Europa to dress down my truck.

James, you "should" be able to go to a 265/75r16 and still fit the steel cover on there, but i'll hopefully be able to confirm that in a week or so. Europa should be able to tell you what size tire you can fit under the soft cover.

Why not just flip the tire around and run coverless? Maybe that's too flashy also?... or if you really wanna dress it down just leave the cover off as is?

Bad news - the steel wheel cover will not fit on a 265/75r16.

Anyone need my now-redundant wheelcover?

I am pretty sure Europa can still import 16" G320 rims...at a high cost. A month or so ago, i inquired about it from Europa. They quoted around $2300 for 5 16" G320 rims. Delivery time is about 4 weeks.

Do you guys know why MB went with the wider offset for 2002-up rims?? There must be a reason for this. They added other safety electronics too. I wonder if MB found something when they were testing the G500 for import over here in USA?? Maybe they did this because they found that the G500 may roll over more often or lifted it's tire(s) in emergency maneuvers?? We do sue (aka point finders) a lot as a society. Or maybe they wanted to avoid what happened to Isuzu and the Trooper with Consumer Reports??

The US seems to be the only country in the world that gets the et43 wheels. Everyone else gets the et63... harald noted that all the new 18" designs are only available in et63. Your probably very right that it was a roll-over litigation "concern" that made them push out the wheels a bit... could also be a spec issue... they didn't want a nissan pathfinder to be 2 inches wider track.

Several folks can get the 16's for a lot cheaper than europa... though it probably is good to buy from them from time to time, to keep them running.

Thank you. Glad you caught that. I need to check my data more carefully before I run my fingers! [:)]

When I was at the Mercedes Dealership in Germany a few months ago, I could get the original 16" wheels that came with my G320 for 240 Euro each.

The guy who I purchased my 2nd pair of 18" wheels from was fitting them on his Sprinter Van. His wife thought that they stuck out too far; thus I bought them. He was able to purchase 16" wheels for his Sprinter from MB. I need to find out where he got them.

Part number for those wheels is: A.463.401.03.02 or B6.6.47.0070; although this one may have been discontinued and replaced with A.463.401.07.02.

Chuck or anyone who would know:

This is my first time here.

What shape are the 18" rims in? What type of 16" rims are you looking for? I have an 03 sprinter in Vegas...I looking to upgrade to the G wheels.

Is this a good idea? Any help would be a blessing

Freeman,

the only G wheels that would fit your Sprinter are the ones with ET 63. US 18" wheels have ET 43 and would stick out too far.

As noted before, 265/70/16 = 265/60/18. My hard steel spare cover fits fine. The soft black vinyl with MB logo also fits either one fine also. Please also 245/75/16 also runs on any MBUSA G500 without a problem and fits the back spare covers fine. For those who are interested the best ride is on the 265/70/16. Smooth and capable.

I bought my 5 16 inch rims from Europa a little over 2 years ago and paid about $365 a rim for 5 (caps included) but I think these were old stock as I was told they were in stock and arrived in 2 days. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
