Hi all - Proud new owner of an obsidian black SLK280 with tan leather. Got it at the last second after I had already ordered a black 2.0 Audi TT roadster. Love the new TT, but the Benz has been a dream car for a long time - and was actually less expensive than the TT would have been. So far, so good! Anyway, the only thing that kills me on the car is when I start the car, the seat belt things dings fifteen times really really loud - even if I already have my seatbelt on. That is most annoying. Even my date the other night commented how ridiculous that is. Anyway to stop this on a going forward basis - I don't want to turn off the seatbelt chime if I don't have it on when driving, just the loud dings right away. Also, any way to be able to use my steering wheel controls to hop around my presets instead of moving from channel to channel?? Thanks for any advice, I will get some pics up and then update my profile with location - Scottsdale, AZ to be exact.

Mine beeps like 5 times but only if the seat belt is not fastened. Have it checked when you take it in for the 1000 mile checkup.

The seatbelt chime shouldn't sound if the seatbelt is fastened.

However, if your roof is not properly seated (i.e. completely closed or completely opened), then there is a warning sound which rings. But your dash should turn red and the message "roof not closed" or something like this should be displayed there.

I say, just get the seatbelt chime thing disactivated. The star system (MB's laptop computer with some software) needs to be hooked up to the car and in some menu you're bound to find lots of nice things that can be activated, or disactivated at will.

FYI, Swiss SLK's don't have a seat belt chime, thank god. I do always put by seatbelt on, but I just don't like the idea of some stupid noise ringing in my ear.

What do you mean by moving through your presets with the buttons on the steering wheel? Do you mean that you've configured the radio with one channel set to button #1 (on the stereo/COMAND system), another channel set to #2 and so forth, and that you'd like to go from channel 1 to channel 2 by pressing one of the buttons?

I believe that's how it works... although I rarely play with the radio. You 'can' change radio channels with the arrow buttons (second column of buttons from the left on the steering wheel), but I can't recall if it simply goes up through the cars personally configured channels list, or does it go through your list of configured channels... sorry.

I believe this link will bring you to the SLK Interactive Owners Manual. This particular page explains how to change the setting which lets you scroll through stations or presets.

Also, the system chime goes off everytime you turn on the ignition, no matter if you are buckled in or not. It is a simple test to make sure it is working. You will also notice if you buckle in before you turn on the ignition, the seatbelt light still comes on for a few seconds. It is for the same reason as stated above.

yup, instructions for the radio from the manual work for me. Also, the seat belt chime doesn't go away when i buckle in, it's just a timed reminder.
