There are many of us that have upgraded our vehicle's sound system either through complete

aftermarket replacements or upgrading the existing Becker and speakers.

Some of the ideas used have been down right imaginative and unique.

Either way, it would be nice if they were all in one place to review.

Also....any helpful tips on removing / installing grills, head units, speakers etc.

1983 280SL...THE PIG

I chose to go completely aftermarket for the sound system in the PIG.

I enjoy full, loud music and it can be acheived in a convertible.

I started with a Pioneer head unit 4 X 60 watts which I have my front 4" Pioneer TSA1057 dash speakers and a pair of JL Audio tweeters hooked up with a spliter.
The head unit also runs 2 - 6 X9 JBL speakers on the parcel shelf.

All the speakers are run with no bass.

The bass comes from a 10" Infinity subwoofer and a Crossfire VR302 amp that is mounted on the faux parcel shelf that I contructed out of MDF and carpeted.

This system kicks ass however, I could use a new head unit with some face plate aux. plugs.
The head unit I have is 7 years old now and a little outdated if you want to use , say, an Ipod.
I currently use an FM transmitter for my Ipod.

Please feel free to join in.

Many of you have some nice set ups.

And I would like some pics and info on the map pocket speakers.

I'd also like to hear/see some input from anyone who has gone the door speaker route with their 107. I used to own a 77 450sl that had the "usual" upgrade with some Kenwood 4" in the dash and 6x9's in the back, just powered off of the head unit. Yes, its a night and day improvement over the stock setup, but still nothing that great sound-wise. Now I'm back on here as I'm currently looking for a 560sl for my next fun car and one thing I'd definitely like to do is to go with some type of door speakers. I have seen them both mounted right in the door panel as well as ones that either replace or make use of the map pockets. I'm a audio nut, so I'd like to put something good together for the 560. My preliminary thoughts would be some 6.5" components in the doors and a nice sub in the package shelf, but I'd love to see what other people havee come up with in the way of door speakers.

Under dash invisible mid bass speakers from DTL

German W107 supplier DTL sells under dash mid bass speakers, these speakers itself are a VISATON flat speakers. The idea is strenghten dash coaxial speaker bass performance.

This passenger side under dash blank panel is missing from SL models, may be it has belong into SLS models. On the German spare part films it is illustrated.

AMP MOUNTING

Many have chosen to mount an additional amp in the trunk.

Removing the forward bulkhead before using it to anchor an amp is a good idea as the gas tank is directly behind it.

So be careful driving self tapping screws through it!

The car jack stowage panel is an option.
