I'm looking at purchasing either 107 or 129 SL. I have been reading as much information as I can find regarding these two designs. After looking at pricing for late model 107's (85-89) and early model 129 (90-92) it appears that the pricing is comparable and with-in my target price of range $10,000.00 to $17,000.00. I'm looking for a reliable, fun daily driver. I was at first leaning toward the 107 but I was surprised to find a few 129's within my range as well. Due to rising fuel costs I'm targeting a 6 cylinder so the SL320 or the 380SL appear at this time to the models I'm considering. Any help, suggestions, information or past experiences you could offer in helping me make my decision would greatly appreciate.

Thanks

Been there . .did that ! I went from MB sedans to a fairly well used but reasonably priced 86-560SL followed by beautiful dark blue 89 560SL. As much as I enjoyed the classic style and power, I liked the rounded styling of the 129 body - having power seats and a power top.

So I sold the 89 and went to an affordable 300SL - - definitely an adjustment to the loss of HP . . but in my view, much more fun to drive. And 18 months ago, we traded up for a 99 SL500 that's awesome.

My point is: in my view, they're very different cars and for me, newer was better for my everyday driver. Now I'm going to find a 230-250-280SL as a `weekender' and hopefully enjoy the best of both worlds.

But hey - - half the fun is looking, right?

Best wishes-

Very different cars...
If you want a daily drive go for the 129, either 6 or 8 or 12 cylinders...
If you want a weekend drive go for the 107.
