Hey all, my car is a E220 (W124 of course!)..

My car is equipped with an A/C however, whenever I turn it on, it feels like the A/C would deduct a lot of power from my engine.. This makes it especially problematic as I often drive up hills..

Another problem with the A/C is that, even at cruising speed on the motorway (i.e. 70mph), I could feel a sudden deduction in the car's power (as if I lifted my foot off the gas a little), then after a while it would be normal again.. I have a feeling this is the compressor or something similar kicking in, dragging the engine too much..

Is there anything I can do to remedy this? The car really lacks responsiveness once the A/C is turned on..
I've driven other E220s and they are all the same.. Is this how it is designed to be? My other car is a Japanese car and I can barely feel the difference with and without A/C..

Any ideas are greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Jeff

isnt a 220 a 4 banger... if so then that is most of your problem... the jap car probably weighs almost a half ton less then the benz. that might be why you are experiencing this.
