So basically I got the p0173 & p0170 codes I took out my original MAS cleaned it out with CRC MAS Cleaner (grey aerosol bottle) let it dry and whatever. 10 miles later CEL. I buy a used MAS for $50 10 miles later Check Engine Light cleaned with CRC same thing. So basically cleaning a broken MAF is useless is what I'm saying I believe the only time to use this product is on an already working MAS. Is there anyway to test these things with a multimeter? Could these specific error codes relate to something else?

-Thanks

You can test them with the correct diagnostic equipment with the live data.............Going off what you said, would you really want to spray that stuff on a good MAF?

I had similar experience when ebay dealer send me 2 used MAF for free with other purchase.
I bet there is a tester for MAF, but most likely you could buy 100 new OEM MAFs for the price.
Let me know if you buy it ;)

Hey how long did you have to wait for the error codes to clear? What ceremony did you do to install the MAF.

I keep reading of bad experiences with everyone here about how cleaning their MAF didn't work or how using a non-Bosch one didn't either. I've cleaned several on other high performance cars in the past (incl. A 300 SRT8 recently, which is a largely Mercedes parts car) with no issues. I've also put cheap brands on without issue. What is it about this engine and the Bosch that makes our cars so sensitive I wonder? I smell conspiracy... Haha

About 10 seconds/7 restarts.
Ceremony? We are not talking wedding here :D
Per my experience MAFs wear out, or accumulate reading errors before they trigger CEL. After replacing one, I noted big mpg increase.
So IMHO even if you succeed with cleaning, the old MAF will cost you in increased fuel consumption. Do you clean and regap spark plugs?

Well, by now the OP has spent about $55 and no resolution yet. You can now buy a cheap MAF from the EBay, which may or may not work, getting you to two thirds of the price of a proper MAF. Then buy another one, etc.

Or you can cut your losses and order a proper one from AutoHouseAZ or some reputable dealer and write the $55 off as a learning experience. ;)

Anyone wants a used MAF sensor I will send them mine for $30. This is a OEM from MB came with my car in 2001. I have a P0170 back in Sept 2010 and the CEL canceled itself after the next day start. I never perform any cleaning on the unit. 2 days ago, the CEL comes again with the same code. Except this time the CEL stays on for one hour. My car is 108K miles and I ordered a new insert,Beck Arnley for $148 from autopartswarehouse.

waller,
At least, mine is from the MB factory and it does not has code in last 3 days, so it is a good used one. haha.

I can only let go of the insert. The body is reusable. I only ordered the insert from the autopartswarehouse. The whole unit with the insert will cost $40 more. Matter of fact, you can clean the housing after you remove the old inserts by soaking it into soap water and drip or hang dry it before you put your new insert into the slot. All rubber seals in the old housing can be soften by good wax spray from 3M.
