I have owned both a 1990 1.8 injection and a 1986 2.0 carb.
The ride was better on the 1.8, but the carb model had lowered suspension.
As for economy, I surprisingly found the 2.0 carb to be more economical. I put this down to the 1.8 being too under powered and having to drive it harder to get any kind of performance.
