Anyone ever try the Dragsrip? Looking for time and speed to be expected on a relativly stock 430 or 500 ML.

I guess I will be the one to find out, will post the results. Will be a while before I can use New England Dragway.

Extra slow & slow...
On a drag strip, that is just about right.

Might be a surprise, all wheel drive and the low end torque is good.
Only problem I see is the 5800lbs......

around 7.8 - minutes ?? :)
Seriously though, I'd be suprised if an ML430 could get below 8 seconds for a true 0-60MPH.
Maybe if it had a light fuel load and only the driver - after all 5800lbs is a lot of mass to accelerate.
Now if Mac was still around I'm sure his ML500 would be sub 5 seconds :)

Thanks for the chart, I have some idea that the 1/4 mile speed is going to be high,if you go by the chart and use the 0-60 in say 8sec, a drag strip is 1320ft.
If you figure in a professional driver [me] with track time, blow up the tires to around 45lbs, power brake the trans to stall speed [not recomended] and wide open throttle, shift manually at red line, it should run someplace around 100mph. My guess is around 15sec.Remember no wheel spin! I will make several runs to see, then see which one of the MLs [99 430's] will need the trans rebuilt!
Oh and the ESP "off"

the trans to stall speed [not recomended]
The MB TDM lists the max time at stall for some transmissions. Usually about 3 seconds. A friend busted the transmission of a 6.3 liter MB 600 on the strip a while back, maybe because it was held too long at stall until the light changed... [:D]

Lemme chime in with my trivial information.

Specs on my U900 Mercedes.

With the 6 inline diesel OM352 at 2550rpm with the 20 x 8 transmission first gear in super crawler doing 0,065mph (0,1Km) 1/4mile in 5 hours.

Total reduction 4000 to 1, one tire revolution every 2 minutes. (12.5-20 tires)

Wolfgang, listed stall RPM in my manuals is around 2400-2500 , this is at wide open throttle, assuming the wheels dont start to turn, Drag strip style is to reach this RPM somewhere at the same time as the lights come down. Loading the Converter at a light or for any period of time WILL launch the clutch plates and seals.
Transmission temp rises at an alarming rate when stalled.
Needless to say, this is from experience!
I would just like to see if it is as fast as I think it is, and no way to tell what it will do when you pull up along side of a Corvette or Mustang on a wet day.
I will post the results.

I ran my 2000 ML430 at New Englad Dragway 2 years ago.

Mods:
-Intake
-Exhaust
-Removed 2 of 4 resonators

I ran the 1/4 mile in the mid to high 16's. I also had the 20" Brabus wheels on it. The ML really craps out on the top end. 0-40mph in 1st gear is fun though!

Chris, was the tire size [dia] larger on the 20" wheels?
I was wondering what that did to the gear ratio?
The standard 275/55R17 is 28.9, anything larger would raise the ratio, poor on the accelation.
