Bob King MB of Wilmington, NC diagnosed the oil leak, half dollar size overnight, as the oil cooler seal, 900 plus in parts, 1600 plus in labor that's after a military discount and another 5 percent on top of that. Took them 3 days, I paid, picked it up, made it 3/4 of a mile away, Bang, a flash, smoke outside/inside, no power and high revs. Getting it off the road, the car will barely move. Bob King responded right away, gave apologies, they have someone stay with the car and set me up with a loaner. They get it back to the shop and say the egr was not put back on correctly and fired off resulting in Bang, flash, smoke, no power. I am fairly mechanical savvy and I think I believe them but wanted to see if it sounds right to those who are more experienced than I am. Thoughts? Any additional damage that I should be on the lookout for? I am now up to 18 pages of MB repair records on this car at 150k, still like it, but it is a costly beast.

Changing those seals is a massive undertaking, turbo and intake manifolds come off. A lot of things could go wrong on that job, unfortunate for you something did. Just make sure you are treated right, taken care of for being put out of your vehicle, towing, etc. A couple free services in the future, a detailing, stuff like that or a general discount on future repairs. Make sure the engine bay is clean before you leave, oil can sit in the intake valley and stink/drip/smoke for a long time, bring a pen light or flexible Stylus light and shine it around before you leave under the engine cover-peak around.

you might want to test the rain sensing wipers. Don't know about the W251, but I've heard some others having issues after a windshield replacement.
good luck, hope they get everything right this time around.
